The Mid-Norfolk Railway is pleased to add an additional event on June 14th & 15th to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Swaffham – Thetford railway which closed in June 1964. This line was one of the first in Norfolk to close under the terms of the infamous 1963 Beeching Report. To commemorate the event, the MNR has arranged vintage bus tours, visiting some of the remaining parts of the line.
Buses will leave Dereham at 1300 each day. There will be an ex member of British Railways staff on the bus each day to talk about his experiences of working the line, along with a historian who has researched local history. There will also be a photographic display in Dereham Station showing each station along the route.
Tickets Cost £25 which include a Souvenir guide, ticket and complimentary refreshments, as well as travel on all MNR services on the day. The bus is provided free from the Eastern Transport Collection.
