The Mid-Norfolk Railway is pleased to be moving forward with its vision to purchase and operate a set of Mk1 coaches on the line.
British Railways Mark 1 Coach was the family designation for the first standardised designs of railway carriages built by British Railways incorporating the best features of each of the former companies’ designs. It was also designed to be much stronger than previous designs, to provide better protection for passengers in the event of an accident. The majority of Mk1 loco hauled trains had disappeared by the late 1990s, but the design of vehicle lasted in full mainline service until the early 2000s and is still in use with a number of Charter operators today.
We wish to purchase two Mk1s from the East Lancashire Railway, a CK and an FK, and we are still in negotiations with Riviera Trains for an additional vehicle. We need your help to make this happen.
